I made a bunch of these little darlings early in the holiday season and kept them in my fridge as a little sweet insurance in the event of impromptu visitors. That’s one of the things I love about the holiday season, people just popping by for a cup (or four) of cheer, perhaps dropping by some treats, but usually just pausing for a bit to say hi and “where the hell did that year go?”.
I try not to keep too many sweets in my house as a normal order of business, because……well, I’d eat them all, but I make an exception over the holiday season as an anti-Scrooge-like gesture of goodwill for my friends. Along with more savory treats like seasoned nuts, hummus, charcuterie and cheese, I keep some candies, cookies, and usually a few variants of chocolate treats on-hand for the holiday hordes. You should all stop by some time…..really, it would be fun!
Even though the holidays are in our rear-view, I encourage you to make a batch of these nuggets because they are the perfect bite for when you feel like something a touch sweet, but hesitate to break out a pint of Ben and Jerry’s to quell the beast. One or two of these balls, which come to us courtesy of my friends over at Leite’s Culinaria, are perfect with an afternoon coffee or as a late-night nosh to get you through whatever you’re binge watching on Netflix.
You’re welcome.
Cheers – Steve
