Happy Holidays Everyone!

No recipe today, just a few festive shots of Muppet's Gingerbread Village to brighten your day.

Regardless of what holiday you celebrate this season, all of us here at Oui, Chef wish you festivities full of love, laughter, and of course, lots of great food!

 See you in 2012!

Like they say…."It takes a village", preferably one made entirely of SUGAR!

Food52 Cookbook

Food52 Cookbook

Those of you who have been with us for a while know all about Food52, the awesome on-line food community founded by Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs.  The first two years of Food52's life were dedicated to crowd sourcing a few cookbooks by holding on-line recipe contests each week (for 52 weeks…get it?), with the winners of each themed contest getting their recipes published in a cookbook.

Well, I'm proud to report that the first Food52 cookbook has been published and that I was one of the lucky contest winners to have a recipe published within (I actually have two winning recipes in next year's book, so stay tuned!).  This year's edition is a gorgeous thing, and would make a really terrific holiday gift for family and foodie friends alike.  It is packed with terrific recipes ranging from my Cider Brined Pork with Calvados, Mustard and Thyme, to my friend Winnie's Turkey Pho, and fellow LCB grad Lynda's, amazing Broccoli Rabe, Potato, and Rosemary Pizza.

This is a cookbook by home cooks for home cooks, so you need look no further for a great addition your favorite foodie's growing collection!  You can order a copy (or 5) by clicking the image below…and no, I don't receive a penny on the sale of any of the books, I just get the satisfaction of knowing that on my recommendation, you will have purchased one of the best new cookbooks out there.

Go ahead….click it!

Cheers and happy holiday cooking! – Steve

My 7 Links

My 7 Links

I was recently tagged as a torchbearer for the Tripbase Blog's "My 7 Links Project", and yes, that is why you are looking at a big, orange 7 above, and not some lovely treat the kids and I whipped up.  For those of you who have yet to hear about project, it is described as a way of “uniting bloggers (from all sectors) in a joint endeavor to share lessons learned and create a bank of long but not forgotten blog posts that deserve to see the light of day again”.  The way it works is this.  A blogger goes back through their archives and chooses 7 posts, or "links" from their past that satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Most beautiful post
  2. Most popular post
  3. Most controversial post
  4. Most helpful post
  5. Most "surprisingly successful" post
  6. Most neglected post
  7. and finally….the post that makes them most proud

The blogger then chooses 5 other bloggers to do the same, and so on, and so on.  This meme has been on the move for some time, where it will end, who knows?

We're Back in Business!

July 19, 2011 By Steve Dunn Leave a Comment

Hi gang –

I'm happy to share that the support crews at Typepad and Discus have finally isolated the issue that was causing my comment forms to FAIL.  My guardian angel Colleen, at Typepad, has written a piece of code that provides a work around to a VERY quirky "requirement" of Discus' that kept their comment forum from working properly on some of my posts.

I've just reposted Momofukus' Fried Chicken, and Peyton's "Jean-Georges" Meal, and would encourage all of you to give them another look, and comment to your heart's desire!

Thanks for all your patience as we worked through this issue, we'll be back shortly with a great new post to share.

Cheers – Steve

No Botox Required – An Anniversary Facelift for Oui, Chef

No Botox Required – An Anniversary Facelift for Oui, Chef

A face lift good enough to eat, not a freakish one like Cher's!

As we celebrate our 2 year anniversary here at Oui, Chef we felt a little face lift was in order.  No botox for our little blog, just a spiffed up banner, a new layout, a more unified design and color scheme, an upgrade to "Discus" comments, and some new search functionality including a full recipe index.  We've wanted to pretty things up around here for a while, and felt hitting the 2 year mark was a good excuse to finally pull the trigger, roll up our sleeves and get to work.  We hope you like what you see!

First, some words of thanks to the awesome Laura and Colleen at TypePad.  Their questions guided me through the maze of design possibilities, and helped me to realize what it was I really wanted to accomplish during this "make-over" process.  Colleen exhibited infinite patience as she taught me (an HTML neophyte) the few snippets of code I would need to format my posts to take advantage of the new design. You ladies rock!  Thanks also to Dina Lyons the graphic designer who came up with my original logo and banner, and is responsible for the cool evolution of the banner you see above.  Finally a shout out to my brother-in-law David, who's talent at making "food faces" inspired the lovely green tomato smiler above.
